ethically sourced - sustainable - quality
When choosing accessories brands we researched where the materials are sourced and who the accessories are made by. In the accessory industry, there is a big issue with unethical sourcing as well as unethical working conditions for employees. Below are a few of the accessories brands that share the same values as us, and we are beyond proud to carry and support.
Lock & Key
Lock & Key founder Tony Perrin grew up in Southern California where he was immersed in a world of creativity. At the age of ten Tony spent the summer learning the artisan tradition of bead weaving from a family friend Frank "Frankie" Perez. Frankie was an old soul and authentic to his core. He made his own jewelry, tumbled and cut his own stones, worked with metal and was a master bead weaver working on his handmade loom.
After spending over a decade as a professional dancer, working in the television and theatre industries, Tony found himself injured and in search of his next chapter in life. His skill at hand sewing, scenic and costume design helped land him a job, and the beginning of a new career, in the New York fashion industry working for some of the top designers in the world. After traveling back to Los Angeles and continuing to gain invaluable experience he settled down in Nashville where Lock and Key found its roots.
Each piece of Lock & Key jewelry is still hand crafted on the loom that was handed down to Tony from Frankie. Each stone and metal is sourced by Tony himself.
While living in Ethiopia, ABLE's founder, Barrett Ward, saw firsthand how extreme poverty forced young women, generation after generation, to resort to prostitution as a means of supporting themselves and their families. They decided right then and there that they were going to be the positive change they wanted to see. Barrett created ABLE as a lifestyle brand focused on ending generational poverty by working with women who have often overcome extraordinary circumstances. They manufacture directly in the communities they wish to impact, both locally and globally, creating jobs and ending the cycle of charity dependency.
Although KEAP in not an accessory company, they are one of our favorite brands we carry, so we had to feature them on our website!
KEAP is a sustainable candle company founded by roommates in Brooklyn, NY. Most candles are made of parraffin wax, which isn't good for you or the environment (but hey, it's cheap). KEAP made it their mision to make a candle that was completely sustainable and good for the environment. This is why all of their candles are handmade from raw coconut wax.
Their candle wicks have also been lead free since 2003, and they go a step further using metal-free cotton wicks for a clean, pure burn that create less soot and fumes.
They also designed their candleholders to be easy to repurpose—with no adhesives so the labels and wicks are easy to remove!
